The production team for SAAC's spring youth theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz" will be hosting auditions on Monday, January 23, at the South Arkansas Arts Center.

Auditions for the South Arkansas Arts Center's Youth Theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz" are scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Students in grades 2-8 may audition for the production. Those who wish to try out are asked to arrive early to fill out their audition form and have their photo taken.

Everyone auditioning will be taught a dance, play theatre improvisation games, read from the script and learn the song "Yellow Brick Road," from the show. No advance preparation is required, but scene readings and sheet music will be available at SAAC for those who wish to prepare before audition day.

The production team for this much-loved show includes director Hayden Nooner, music director Cassie Hickman, choreographer Hannah Elizabeth and assistant director Avery Hall.

Nooner, a big fan of the movie, said, "This classic story has touched the hearts of millions for over eighty years. I love being able to be a part of a show that can touch so many people in different ways and that's what 'The Wizard of Oz' does. I cannot wait to see the 2023 cast of 'The Wizard of Oz' bring this show to life. I fell in love with this movie when I was young and I can't wait to share my love of this story with the SAAC audience."

Music director Cassie Hickman said she too is excited to be a part of this show.

"One of my fondest memories as a child was watching 'The Wizard of Oz' and to be able to bring it to stage is quite exciting. There are so many wonderful and magical moments in this show and I can't wait to share it with another generation of kids," she said.

Auditions will be held at SAAC, 110 E. 5th St. in El Dorado, on Monday, Jan. 23, from 4-6 p.m. The production is sponsored by Kiwanis International and performances are scheduled May 5-6.
